Australian star Nick Kyrgios has always been known for his entertaining style of play. Even though he hasn’t been a top player, it wouldn’t be wrong to say that he is definitely one of the most well-known players. Kyrgios’ matches often experience full attendance, thanks to his unconventional style of play. However, lately, the 26-year-old has been getting more attention for his discourse with chair umpires than his game.
Following his fourth round loss in Miami, Kyrgios kicked off his clay season at the Houston Open. Having his game in place, Kyrgios set up a semifinal clash with Reilly Opelka. The match started with both the players going neck-to-neck. However, in the second set, Kyrgios indulged in a rant with the chair umpire.
The reason for this conflict is the unavailability of hawk-eye and not being able to challenge a missed call by the umpire. As a result, Kyrgios received a point penal and the Australian went on to experience a straight-sets loss to Opelka.

Post the press conference, he took to his Instagram, appealing for new umpires.
A similar incident took place today. Today, 10th April, Kyrgios took to his Twitter handle, uploading a tweet. Tagging a tweet of a journalist who had reported Kyrgios’s Houston incident, the Australian player wrote, “Haha again… falls all on me. Umpires seem to make these mistakes a little too often. A lot of players seemed dissatisfied with the performance of them this week in Houston. More punishment? Potentially new umpires? Semi final, ‘I missed it nick’ on clay 5-5 in the second set.”
