‘UNFORTUNATE’: Grigor Dimitrov Forced to Retire From 1st Round of French Open 2021

It’s the first day of the French Open 2021 and fans have witnessed some really amazing tennis so far. While stars like Naomi Osaka got off to a great start at the tournament, Dominic Thiem and Grigor Dimitrov didn’t enjoy an ideal start.
Former World No.3 Grigor Dimitrov retired in his very first match at the French Open 2021. Even though he played the first two sets amazingly well, it was the third set when problems began for the Bulgarian player. He was losing 0-3 in the fourth set when he decided to walk off the court. The set scoreline at that time was 6-2, 6-4, 5-7.

Dimitrov retired as a result of his back problems. He has had some issues with his back in the past as well and decided to retire after the advice of his physiotherapist. As a result, his opponent Marcos Giron got a walkover and will now advance to the second round of the French Open 2021.
Grigor Dimitrov in the 2021 tennis season so far
Dimitrov has not been up to the mark when it comes to playing in the 2021 tennis season. Even though he has got good starts at many tournaments, he hasn’t been able to any trophies on tour this year.
The Bulgarian managed to reach the quarters of the Australian Open 2021 after defeating Dominic Thiem. However, he lost to Aslan Karatsev there. Then, the same story continued at the Mexican Open and at the Geneva Open 2021 as he got eliminated in the quarter-finals.
