Carlos Alcaraz got off to a flying start at the US Open. The defending champion smoothly sailed into the second round after his first-round opponent, the German Dominik Koepfer, retired. It turned out to be way easier for the Spaniard than what he himself would have probably expected. Unsurprisingly, Alcaraz was in a joyous mood following the walkover, and the Spaniard’s delight became truly apparent when he took the US Open crowd by storm with his singing.

Alcaraz’s friend and iconic Colombian pop sensation Sebastian Yatra was in the crowd to witness Alcaraz’s easier-than-expected victory. And it’s Grammy Award winning Yatra’s hit tune that Alcaraz belted out. To add some icing to the musical cake served up by the defending champion, Alcaraz even threw in a few dance moves.

In 2022, Carlos Alcaraz became the darling of the US Open faithful after storming to his first ever Grand Slam title. This year, the expectations on the young Spaniard are even bigger. Tennis fans are licking their lips at the prospect of Alcaraz meeting Novak Djokovic once again after epic final contests at both Wimbledon and Cincinnati.

However, the pressure on Alcaraz didn’t seem to deter him at all. The Spaniard won the first set 6-2 in quite a convincing fashion. He also established the lead over Koepfer in the second. However, after Koepfer rolled his ankle, it became quite clear that Alcaraz wouldn’t have to compete anymore to earn a place in the second round. Following the short-lived contest, Alcaraz was handed the mic to speak his thoughts, and there came a moment when he was urged to belt out a tune.

With friend and Colombian pop superstar Sebastian Yatra in the crowd, it’s no surprise that Alcaraz chose to sing one of Yatra’s biggest hits. The song was none other than ‘Vagabundo’, which Yatra released in May this year. So far, the song has accumulated over 74 million views on YouTube and stands close to a mammoth 140 million plays on Spotify.

As Alcaraz’s vocals and dance moves flowed in perfect harmony, the crowd couldn’t help but cheer the defending champion on. Of course, it was Yatra himself who cheered Alcaraz on the loudest. This came days after Yatra himself switched his trade from music to tennis for a day, as a whole host of stars lit up the US Open.

Sebastian Yatra’s Rafael Nadal-driven on-court adventure at US Open

Ahead of the US Open, Sebastian Yatra moved away from his popstar avatar for a day as he shared the Grand Slam stage with Carlos Alcaraz to play some tennis. They were joined on the court by American tennis star Frances Tiafoe and NBA’s Miami Heat icon Jimmy Butler.

Yatra had very little experience in tennis prior to his US Open adventure. As a result, the Colombian turned to another Spaniard, and it wasn’t just anyone; it was the legend himself, Rafael Nadal. Yatra paid a visit to Nadal’s famed academy in Mallorca. As a result of Nadal’s hands-on approach, Yatra’s tennis display was commendable. It’s safe to say that Carlos Alcaraz too, did a fine job of emulating Yatra’s iconic vocals as his acapella performance got the crowd roaring. What do you think of Carlos Alcaraz’s vocal performance at the US Open? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section.
