Former German tennis star Boris Becker was undoubtedly among the greatest of his time. The 54-year-old has six Grand Slam titles to his name and also topped the ATP rankings. However, after his retirement from tennis, he couldn’t find his feet in different things he tried. Finally, in 2017, he declared bankruptcy. Recently, he was found guilty of hiding assets and is currently serving a prison sentence of two and a half years.

British businessman John Caudwell was one of the few people who helped Becker with funds in difficult times. However, he regrets it now. Here’s what he said.
Caudwell regrets lending money to Boris Becker
Boris Becker is currently serving his prison time and will face deportation to Germany after hiding assets. Caudwell remembers he was reluctant to lend him money, but somehow he did lend him later. Now that he lost the money, the Briton regrets it.
“He’s not my mate. I met Boris through one of my companies, Signia Wealth [a private investment company]. He did some speaking for us and we were friendly. Boris then employed my daughter as his PA for a while and when he got into financial difficulty, I was persuaded to make a loan; not something I wanted to do,” Caudwell said.
He further added, “Well, he never paid it back in three months. It was a miserable event really. In court he said the interest rate was prohibitive — he used me as an excuse, basically. I don’t have happy memories, but sometimes you do favors for people and they backfire.”
John McEnroe extends his support to Becker
