It’s time for the ATP Finals 2020 and 5-time winner Novak Djokovic is starting the tournament as the top-seed. Having a comparatively easier draw, the World No.1 will surely look to win the title for a record sixth time. Before the tournament, Djokovic gave an exclusive interview in which he described his journey in the previous ATP Finals. Interestingly, the Serbian legend even recalled his famous match against Roger Federer in the finals of the ATP Finals 2012.

It was a historic final in London as both Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic looked in great touch. It was here that Djoker stopped the Swiss Maestro from winning the title for the third time consecutively and began his streak. Although Djokovic won in straight sets, Federer really fought hard till the very end. The final scoreline was 7-6, 7-5.

“Well, it was a very close match with Roger and I won in straight sets. But, there was I think 7-6, 7-5, just very few points and shots decided the winner of that match. On that match point, he was coming into the net. He was dictating the play of that point. But, somehow I managed to squeeze past him,” revealed the World No.1.
It was from here that Djokovic started dominating the tournament. He continued his momentum and won 4 back-to-back ATP Finals from 2012 to 2015. His unbeaten run at the tournament finally came to an end in 2016 when Andy Murray defeated him in the finals.

Novak also felt proud that he had some really great and exciting matches against some great players at the ATP Finals.
“Over the years, I had some thrilling matches here with Roger, Rafa, with Andy, and also with the young guys coming in,” added a cheerful Djokovic.
What made Djokovic really happy was that the tournament had four different winners in the last four years. He believed that this diversity was really great not only for the players but also for the game.
“We had different winners actually, which was great to see. You know, Dimitrov, Tsitsipas, Zverev, Andy and so we have four different winners last four years. I think it’s wonderful for the game,” concluded the 17-time Grand Slam winner.
Djokovic lost to Alexander Zverev in the finals of the tournament in 2018. With his current form, it will be a golden opportunity for him to equal Roger Federer’s record of winning the ATP Finals title for the most times (6). He will be kicking off his tournament this Monday facing Diego Schwartzman, whom he defeated in the finals of the Italian Open 2020.
