VIDEO: Carlos Alcaraz Shows the True Spirit of Sportsmanship During His Semifinal Clash in Miami; Receives Appreciation From Former World No. 1

Carlos Alcaraz has been in terrific form since the start of the Miami Open. In the semifinals, the 14th seed outplayed the 8th seeded, Hubert Hurkacz, to reach his maiden Masters 100 finals. Now, the Spaniard is set to face 6th seeded Casper Ruud.
Today, during his semifinal match against Hurkacz, Carlos showed a gesture, which not only was appreciated by Hubert but also by the whole tennis community. Seeing his sportsmanship, the 18-year-old received immense love and respect. What’s more? Apart from love from the tennis fans, the Spaniard also received appreciation from a legendary player.

Indulged in a neck-to-neck fight, neither of the players left any stone unturned, seeking an opportunity to strike first. In the high-intensity match, it was in one of Alcaraz’s that the incident took place.
Looking to seek a point, Alcaraz served to start. Serving on the backhand of Hubert, Carlos received a mid-court return, giving him an open court to hit a winner. However, instead of hitting a winner, Carlos opted to play a forehand drop shot.

Looking to return the drop shot, Hubert took no time to run towards the ball and pick it up. Hubert somehow managed to pick the drop shot. However, the pick didn’t go well with the chair umpire and he called the ball ‘not up’. Disagreeing with the umpire’s call, Hubert indulged in a talk with the umpire that he picked the point in one bounce. However, the conversation between the two soon ended following Alcaraz’s intervention.

Showing his sportsman spirit, Alcaraz opted to concede the point. Conveying his decision to the umpire, the umpire announced a replay. Following his gesture, Carlos not only received a warm gesture of thanks from Hurkacz but also received a loud clap and cheer from the spectators.
Receiving appreciation from the legend
Following his gesture of ultimate sportsmanship, Carlos received massive love, respect, and appreciation from the tennis community. However, amongst all the wishes, one wish that became the highlight was that from the living legend, Martina Navratilova.

Seeing Carlos’s act, the former World No. 1, and 18-times Grand Slam champion took to her Twitter, appreciating the Spaniard. Retweeting a video featuring Carlo’s gesture, Navratilova put out a tweet saying, “Have not seen this kind of stuff in a long time- bravo Carlos!!!”

On the tour front, Carlos is in his maiden final of a Masters 1000 event. In his first-ever final at the ATP Masters 1000 Miami. Carlos is set to face Casper Ruud.
