Just a few months earlier, during the 2023 Barcelona Open, Ruusuvuori was involved in a match that also witnessed racquet abuse. However, he wasn’t the perpetrator this time. In that particular match, Ruusuvuori faced the formidable fifth seed, Frances Tiafoe. The two players engaged in a hard-fought battle, with emotions running high on both sides. After losing the first set 4-6, Tiafoe mounted an impressive comeback, winning the second set 7-6(3), pushing the match into a deciding third set.

At 4-4 in the third set, with the match hanging in the balance, Tiafoe faced a pivotal moment at a crucial point. He attempted a cross-court volley, but unfortunately the ball landed wide, leaving Ruusuvuori with the main position of it all. Disappointed by the missed opportunity, Tiafoe could not control his emotions and smashed his racquet into the ground in a moment of anger. For racquet abuse, Tiafoe was penalized and Ruusuvuori was awarded one point.
