Unfortunately, that was probably his last ever match we witnessed. Del Potro played his comeback match in front of his mother and many other ex-players and coaches. Interestingly, former Argentine Davis Cup captain and the current Argentina Open director, Martin Jaite, was also there.

Before Tuesday’s match, del Potro only played the Argentina Open once before in 2006. Speaking about not playing at the Argentina Open, del Potro said, “If I don’t regret having played the tournament in Buenos Aires more times? No, because I put together my calendars thinking about Indian Wells and Miami, on the fast court, in the first three or four months of the year so that I would be fine for the rest of the year.”
What’s next for del Potro?
After losing to Federico Delbonis (1-6,3-6) in the first round at the Argentina Open, del Potro decided to end his career. Earlier, he had a plan to play the Rio Open after Argentina Open. However, that will never happen, as Argentina Open was his last ever tournament.
