Novak Djokovic hasn’t had the best of seasons so far. Recently, the 21-time Grand Slam champion found himself in an embarrassing situation at the Tel Aviv Open. Earlier this year, a controversy erupted over his vaccination status. As a result, he was deported from Australia and denied a chance to defend his Australian Open title. Subsequently, he lost his golden touch as he made early exits in the following tournaments.

The Serb won his first title this season at the Rome Masters. Further, he also went on to win the Wimbledon Championships, defeating Nick Kyrgios in the summit clash. His vaccination status came to haunt him again as he was denied a chance to participate in the US Open.
Novak Djokovic forgets the scoring system
The former World Number 1 is currently in Israel to participate in the Tel Aviv Watergen Open. Yesterday, he had a comfortable straight-set victory over Vasek Pospisil in the quarterfinal to advance into the last four of the tournament. However, an unfamiliar situation occurred when the score read 5-3 in the second set.

Djokovic proceeded towards his chair, thinking it was a mid-game interval and time for a changeover. Subsequently, he asked the ball persons to take the balls to the other side, where he would be serving.

In an embarrassing moment for him, the chair umpire reminded Djokovic that it was not the time for a changeover and he should serve from the same side of the court. He had a wry smile as he readied to serve and acknowledged the crowd, who were very vocal in cheering for him.

Djokovic reflects on his performance
During the post-match interview after his commanding victory over the Canadian, Djokovic talked about his performance. He said, “It was a great, positive win… I think the level of tennis was really high. Especially towards the end of the first set and the second set. Credit to him for fighting. Great to see him back.”

Djokovic will next take on Roman Safiullin in the semifinals. The latter had earlier defeated Arthur Rinderknech of France in the quarterfinals to enter the last four.
