Spanish tennis legend Rafael Nadal is currently in New York practicing for the US Open 2022. During one of his practice sessions, one interesting incident occurred where he almost uncharacteristically gave in to his frustration.

Notably, Nadal had a reputation for not breaking his racket on the court ever in his tennis career so far. Previously, he has come close to putting his fist through his racket on many occasions. However, this time, he almost broke his racket, albeit in a practice session.

Rafael Nadal fakes breaking his racket during a practice session

Nadal always shows great intensity, whether he is playing a match or is in a practice session. Despite the high intensity, he has never smashed a racket in his career. That’s why many former and current players respect him even more.

In the practice session, one of Nadal‘s shots hits the net, which frustrated the Spaniard. As a result, he faked smashing the racket onto the ground. But Nadal, stopped at the last moment and gave a cheeky smile to the cameras. You can see the clip below.

However, he did lose his cool occasionally, which forced him to do some things like hitting his leg with a racket and hitting his racket with his fist, etc.

Nadal received concerning news ahead of his first match at US Open 2022

According to reports, Nadal’s wife, Mery Perello, was in the hospital, as she was experiencing some sort of pain. Moreover, she may have to undergo an emergency surgery, as the doctors were checking for possible complications.

Notably, Nadal announced earlier that he was going to be a father. As Nadal was traveling to the US, his wife stayed at home, as her due date was in October. But before starting his campaign at the US Open 2022, he received this worrying news, which could jeopardize his campaign.

As the situation with his wife hasn’t worsened, Nadal will not withdraw from the tournament. He will play his opening match on the second day against the Australian tennis player Rinky Hijikata. After this match, he could potentially face Fabio Fognini in the second round, which could be a tough match.
