VIDEO: Roger Federer Calls Matteo Berrettini a ‘Salty Italian Stallion’ in a Hilarious Laver Cup Interaction

Roger Federer recently played the last game of his professional career as part of Team Europe at the Laver Cup. And the 2021 Wimbledon finalist Matteo Berrettini took his place on the team after Day 1 of the tournament and defeated Team World’s Felix Auger-Aliassime in his first match. 

The 20-time Grand Slam champion played his final match in the doubles event on Friday, alongside his long-time rival and close friend Rafael Nadal. However, the Swiss maestro and Nadal ultimately lost the match to Frances Tiafoe and Jack Sock. Nevertheless, Federer remained with the team on the sidelines and recently had a funny interaction with the Italian.

Roger Federer takes a hilarious salty jab

Recently, Roger Federer took to Twitter to share a hilarious moment from Barrettini’s match, where the 26-year-old was searching for something from his bag, when Federer asked what he is looking for, Berrettini said “salt”. After a quick back and forth, the comedic side of Federer took over as he asked if he needed salt for a salad. 

The former world number one wrote in the caption while sharing the video, calling Matteo Berrettini, “the Italian salty stallion.”

Berrettini was originally an extra player for Team Europe, but after Federer announced that his retirement will happen at the Laver Cup, the Italian took his place on the team.

Rafael Nadal withdraws for the rest of the Laver Cup

Nadal was already skeptical about playing in the Laver Cup after his defeat in the US Open against Frances Tiafoe in the round of 16. Furthermore, the 22-time Grand Skam champion battled an abdominal injury for the entire summer. Notably, he also withdrew from the Wimbledon semi-finals. In addition, Rafael Nadal and his wife, Maria, are about to have their first child together.

However, Nadal made an exception to return for Federer’s retirement game and subsequently withdrew from the tournament after the doubles match they played together. It was a very emotional moment for both the tennis giants, as they have been a part of some of the greatest tennis memories that fans hold dear over the past decades.
