The Canadian tennis star Denis Shapovalov is known for his fiery temperament on the court and has had several on-court outbursts in the past. The same was on display in the ongoing Indian Wells Masters. The incident happened after the Canadian showcased his frustration during the round of 64 singles match, and the video of the same has gone viral on social media. Despite showing his frustration, he managed to lighten the mood, which made fans and commentators praise Shapovalov’s ability to turn a negative moment into something amusing.

Shapovalov faced off against Frenchman Ugo Humbert in the men’s singles on Friday night. Despite putting up a fight, the 23-year-old lost in straight sets. The final score read 7-5, 6-4 in favor of Humbert.

After the match, Shapovalov, clearly frustrated after hitting a double fault, took out his anger on his racquet. He smashed it several times on the court, picked up the broken racquet and threw the shattered pieces into a nearby bin, to the amusement of the crowd. The video of the incident has been widely shared on social media. Many have praised him for being able to see the funny side of things and not taking himself too seriously.

Humbert has had a successful year on the Challenger tour, having made it to the finals at Pau earlier this month where he lost to compatriot Luca van Assche in a third-set tiebreak. On the other hand, Shapovalov, ranked 30th, has had a lukewarm start to the season, winning only five of his 10 matches. He recently lost in the second round to Taylor Fritz in Acapulco, following a pair of opening-round exits in Dallas and Delray Beach.
