Casper Ruud is another young player who is raring to prove his mettle in the current French Open. So far, Ruud has advanced to round three after his hard-fought win against Giulio Zeppieri in the second round. After his victory, Ruud was asked about who he would love to be with if he was stranded on an island. Like many tennis players around the world, Ruud answered with a list that included Roger Federer.
While Ruud is a self-proclaimed fanboy of Rafael Nadal, the Norwegian couldn’t help but remember how he felt when he was basking in the presence of the Swiss Maestro during his final match at the Laver Cup before he bowed out with grace from the world of tennis.

The former number 2 answered by reminiscing about how players interacted during the 2022 Laver Cup. He remembered how he felt about being around four tennis legends, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. Ruud said that the connection between the four was endearing as they kept joking with each other.
“Obviously last year during the Laver Cup I had one of the most enjoyable weeks of my life being around four great champions, legends in my eyes, with Roger, Rafa, Novak, and Andy.” Ruud said.

He then specified that the Swiss Maestro was in a cheerful mood even though retirement was looming after the Davis Cup. Therefore, he would prefer to be on an island with one of the big four.
“Roger was in a very good mood even though the last match and after was, of course, very sad. So I think one of those guys for sure. But during, before and after as well, he was always just joking around.” he added.

Along with that, more emotional scenes unfolded as even Djokovic cried as Federer bid goodbye to the tennis world. As per the Djoker, he was holding it together until Federer’s wife came up to him and hugged him. That’s when the waterworks started for the Serbian. Along with him, several other players couldn’t help but shed tears for the Swiss Maestro including his close friend and former rival Rafael Nadal.
Like Ruud, most tennis players are big fanboys of at least one of the big 3 tennis players. With the legacy they have built over the years, this following won’t end anytime soon.
