WATCH: Andy Murray and Felix Auger-Aliassime Fail to Mention Rafael Nadal in List of No.1 Ranked Players

Rafael Nadal has held the number one ATP ranking for a total of 209 weeks. From the current generation, only Federer and Djokovic are ahead of him. He has ended the season five times on top of the rankings. The Spanish sensation claimed the top rank in August 2008 for the first time.

Recently, Gael Monfils was in conversation with Andy Murray and Felix Auger-Aliassime. They had a discussion covering a wide range of topics. While playing a quiz, Gael asked them to name players that have held the number one ranking at some point in their career.

Much to the viewers’ surprise, Murray and Felix failed to name Rafael Nadal as a former World No.1. At one point, Felix realized the blunder they made and said, “Did we say, Nadal? I don’t think we said.

2020 was a decent year for Rafael Nadal

The Spaniard won his 13th Roland Garros title this season. It was the only Grand Slam Rafa chose to play once tennis resumed.

He looked like a firm favorite to win the tournament as it progressed. After that, Nadal won his 1000th ATP level match.

He even broke Connors’ record of holding the “most consecutive weeks” in the top 10 rankings. If there’s any player this year who has had the most amount of success, it’s him.

Speaking of Andy, he himself has been a World No.1 player. Unfortunately, he has been constantly hit by hip injuries. As a result, he’s had surgeries on more than one occasion.

Andy has been playing thereafter, but he has not been the player he once was. Coming to Felix, he has been one of the fastest-growing players on tour as far as performances are concerned. In 2019, he made it to an ATP final on three occasions.

Nadal has equaled Federer’s (five times) record of ending the year as a World No.1. Only Novak stands ahead with six.

This year has ended with Djokovic as the World. No.1. However, winning the ATP World Tour Finals is still up for grabs. Novak takes on Thiem in the first semi-final whereas Nadal’s up against Medvedev in the second.
