Novak Djokovic must absolutely devastated as Team Serbia crashed out of the Davis Cup 2021. The team that looked strong throughout the tournament fell short against Marin Cilic’s Croatia. In their decider match, Djokovic was caught kicking his tennis kit bag in frustration. Meanwhile, Luka Modric watched the Serb lose his temper.

In the third match of the contest, Djokovic and Krajinovic couldn’t surpass Croatia’s Pavic and Mektic. Just a day ago, the world no. 1 talked about the impressive doubles team of Croatia. And now the impressive team has ended the dreams of Novak Djokovic and colleagues.

Novak Djokovic kicks kit bag in disappointment, Luka Modric watches

In spite of having an astounding season, Novak Djokovic couldn’t complete his 2021 with another title. Djokovic’s leading Serbian side tumbled against Croatia in the semi-finals of the contest. In the singles match, Djokovic handsomely won against Marin Cilic to make it 1-1 for the team. However, the doubles match didn’t go his way.

Serbia’s Novak Djokovic/Filip Krajinovic suffered a major straight-set defeat against Croatia’s Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic 5-7, 1-6. At one point, the world No. 1 got so frustrated that he vigorously kicked his tennis bag.

Luka Modric, Croatian football player playing for Real Madrid, had also come out to support his country in Madrid. Modric looked puzzled to see Djokovic’s lack of sportsmanship.

Djokovic was already anxious before the match

Ahead of their semi-finals clash against the likes of Croatia, Novak Djokovic praised the opposing team, especially their doubles pair. In his words, he stated, “ I know Cilic very well, Gojo is one of the biggest surprises of the tournament and they have the best pair of doubles in the world.”

Moreover, talking about the extra pressure, he said, ” It is true that there is a great rivalry with Croatia and that this match has an additional meaning for us. There is always extra pressure and motivation to win.”

Well, the doubles team of Croatia has certainly done their job perfectly as they crushed Djokovic’s Davis Cup dreams. Serbia lifted their only Davis Cup trophy in the year 2010.
