Although players like Monfils stepped out of the tournament, Monte Carlo Masters has taken a great start this year. It is carrying hopes of players such as Osaka who wish to turn her clay courts records around, and players like Zverev who are looking for a breakthrough.

In short, Montecarlo is fated to witness some grand matches this year. However, the recent visit from football stars to the match of Fabio Fognini made it grander.

Fabio Fognini Had Neymar Jr and Verratti in the Audience

Monte Carlo open is done with the qualifiers and hosted its round of 64 on the 10th and 11th of April. However, it caught everyone’s attention at such an early stage owing to a pleasant sighting. Neymar Jr, the forward, and Marco Verratti, the central midfielder of Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain, attended the second round. They gave their attendance in the match between Italian, Fabio Fognini, and French, Arthur Rinderknech.

The former world no.9 clashed with the French professional on April 11 and what a match it was. Although one would expect Fabio to take an easy win over Arthur, the match was rather cutthroat. Both played in a similar fashion. However, the Italian’s experience and endurance outfoxed the 26-year-old. Fognini won the match by 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

What’s ahead for Fognini?

Fabio Fognini has given a decent start to this year’s clay-court season. He earlier has made some splendid records on the red dirt as out of his 9 career titles, 8 are from clay-court tournaments. Notably, he won the 2019 Monte Carlo open. Though his records back him, he is put up against the defending champion, Stefanos Tsitsipas.

Speaking of Tsitsipas, he is seeded third this year and thrashed almost every player last year, and claimed the title without dropping a single set. Currently, world no.5 Tsitsipas is on a lead of 3 victories against Fabio Fognini. However, Fognini will be looking forward to scoring his first win in the upcoming match.
