Stefanos Tsitsipas seems to be the next Clay King! He defeated Casper Ruud 6-1, 6-4 on Sunday to win his third title in four years in the Principality, concluding another incredible week at the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters. And soon after this victory, the World No. 3 broke down in tears. A video taken just after the match captured the 25-year-old becoming emotional after his incredible win.
The official account of Tennis TV posted a video on their X soon after the victory of Stefanos Tsitsipas. There, fans got a glimpse of Tsitsipas crying with his hands over his head. He was sitting down on the bench with his head down as the camera captured him on the court. Tsitsipas covered his face as he cried further before finally getting up to relish the well-deserved victory.
Stefanos Tsitsipas collapsed to the ground after winning the title, then got up to embrace his opponent, Ruud. And after that, the emotional winner hugged his teammates. The Greek, who has previously played some of his finest tennis in Monte-Carlo, rose to the occasion against Ruud in front of an enthusiastic audience on Court Rainier III. Playing freely, he forced Ruud deep with big cuts on his powerful forehand. He used his effective forward passes to expose the Norwegian’s deep-court position.

In 2024, the 25-year-old player entered the clay-court ATP Masters 1000 competition with a respectable 11-6 record. But very soon Tsitsipas reached his peak in Monte-Carlo, when he triumphed over Jannik Sinner and Alexander Zverev, two of the top 10 players. Tsitsipas achieved three Top 10 victories at an event for the first time since Toronto in 2018 by also defeating World No. 10 Ruud.

In April 2021, Tsitsipas won his first Masters 1000 title at the Monte-Carlo Masters. In the next year, Tsitsipas again clinched the title by defeating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in two sets to capture his second ATP Masters’ 1000 title. Winning the title for the third time, Tsitsipas expressed his happiness after the match.
“I’m extremely happy today,” says Stefanos Tsitsipas after his Monte Carlo victory
The victory in Monte Carlo follows Tsitsipas’s mixed performance over the previous two months on the tour. He had dropped out of the top 10 in the world going into the competition, having lost seven of his previous eight matches against players ranked in the top 20. But he’s turned his luck around.

This is unbelievable for me. Capturing this win today was nerve-wracking. I really wanted the trilogy, and I got it. I’m extremely happy today,” Tsitsipas said.
In the PIF ATP rankings on Monday, Tsitsipas will now move up to seventh place. His fans are also excited after witnessing his victory. They are now looking forward to seeing him play in his next match at the Barcelona Open.
