After the 2017 US Open, Roger Federer had tweeted a video in which del Potro could be seen delivering a powerful forehand winner. The caption read, “Juan Martin del THORtro”, comparing him to the American superhero and Marvel comic character ‘Thor’.

Juan Martin del Potro went on to defeat Roger Federer in the quarter-finals of that tournament. However, he lost to the eventual champion Rafael Nadal in the semi-finals.
