Roger Federer might have left professional tennis, but the tennis maestro inside him is still there; alive and breathing. It has been almost two years since he last stepped on the court as a professional player. But recently, Federer was seen hitting his popular forehand while trying to teach tennis to his agent’s son during his trip to California. On the other hand, as the Miami Open chugs on, there are a lot of thoughts about whether the 20-time Grand Slam champion will attend the Masters 1000 tournament or not.

Currently, the 42-year-old tennis legend is in California, where he took some time off to teach some tennis skills at Stanford University. In a recent video of the 20-time Grand Slam champion, he is seen showing how to hit the forehand to Nico Godsick, who is the son of an American tennis player, Mary Joe Fernández, and Tony Godsick, the Swiss athlete’s agent.

In addition to this, not only did he show him how to hit the signature shot, but Federer also observed Nico, displaying how coaching and mentoring, perhaps, might be one thing he can focus on after his on-court career spanning over two decades. Nevertheless, he did previously talk about whether he would go through with the idea of coaching players while also revealing his after-retirement plans. A change in heart?

Roger Federer’s take on handling coaching duties after on-court retirement

Back in 2022, after spending 24 years on the tour, in a candid conversation, Federer highlighted how he is happy to spend time with his kids and take some time away from the court. But while doing so, he also explained how his fans won’t actually see him become a full-time coach in the near future, but with a twist.

He stated, “At the moment with my four children going to school and everything going on, I don’t see myself coaching at the moment. If a junior comes around and he needs some support or advice I’m happy to do that.” While he might not be thinking about coaching at this moment, there may be some ‘junior out there’ needing some extra attention. It will be interesting to see what comes next for Federer.
