Recently, a horrible event took place for a player who used to be a regular in the top 20 of the ATP rankings. Bernard Tomic has been absent from the top of men’s tennis for a while. The Australian player has been having a torrid time on the court, and now it seems like the same is the case off the court as well. Tomic was recently cornered and attacked by two men.

This wasn’t an isolated event, unfortunately. Several tennis players have been attacked due to reasons that many cannot understand. In 2019, Petra Kvitova was attacked in her apartment, which led to a grave injury. This time, Tomic was attacked when he was out.

When Petra Kvitova was attacked in her apartment

In 2019, Kvitova was in the top 10 of the WTA rankings and continued to play smashing tennis. But her great season did not have a great end as she was attacked in her home. The Czech professional was attacked with a knife, which led to an injury in her left hand, forcing her to take a break from tennis. The attack was nightmarish and left her mentally scarred as well. For a while, she was unable to be around men.

Another incident took place in 1993 on Monica Seles, where she was stabbed with a knife in her back. To make matters worse, she was attacked during a match by a fan of her rival, Steffi Graf. Seles came back but could not play at the same level. Such attacks on athletes are tragic and lead to more than physical injuries.
