Andy Murray‘s out of the protective boots—a sign of progress. The British tennis player missed the Munich Open and the Monte Carlo Masters due to an ankle injury sustained at the Miami Open. Fans were worried about his tennis return, but now there is hope. Although Murray won’t need surgery, his comeback timeline remains uncertain.

A positive health update on Andy Murray’s tennis return

According to BBC reports, the former world number one will not undergo surgery on the ankle, but no timeline is presented for his return. However, the best part is that the British tennis star is now out of the injury loop, but in a few weeks or months, he will be back on the court.

The statement by his spokesperson read, “Latest update from Andy is that he is now out of the walking boot and will not be having surgery on his ankle. His rehab is going well and he is hoping to start hitting again on court soon. As yet he doesn’t have a date yet for returning to competition.”

After undergoing hip resurfacing surgery in 2019, former World No. 1 and three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray stated he didn’t plan to play much past the summer. He did, however, have dreams of competing in another Olympics. Subsequently, on the other hand, he has shown interest in the French Open, which was due to start on May 25.

However, the former world number one was hoping for a busy summer of tennis with Wimbledon, which he has won twice, starting on July 1, and the Paris Games later that month. However, now that the injury has derailed a few of his tournament plans, the biggest concern is whether he will extend his retirement plans of leaving tennis after the 2024 summer.

What’s next for Murray?

Before fully understanding the severity of his injury, Murray made his most resolute remarks on the matter following his loss in Miami. “I am looking forward to the end now, giving my best for the next few months, and then getting to be at home with my family,” Murray said.

On the other hand, a few weeks ago, the British tennis player made a retirement admission that he wasn’t likely to play beyond summer. But with the Paris Olympics and the injury scare, there might be a possibility that he might extend his stay a few months on the tennis tour a little longer to complete the gap that came with this injury.
