‘What A Monster’: Fans React to Resurgent Juan Martin Del Potro at Practice Ahead of Possible Farewell Match

33-year-old Juan Martin del Potro is finally about to make his return to the tennis circuit. The 2009 US Open champion will finally be playing again for the first time since 2019.

He couldn’t have chosen a better place to make his comeback than at home in Argentina. Del Potro has accepted a wildcard into the Argentina Open, where he would mark his return on clay.

Additionally, he will also play in Rio de Janeiro after the tournament in Buenos Aires. Sadly, del Potro announced that he will be thinking about his future after these two tournaments. Now, fans can’t believe the news as they see the Tower of Tandil practicing his serve-and-forehand combo.

Twitterati can’t believe Juan Martin del Potro is leaving

Earlier today, the official Twitter page for the Argentina Open shared a clip of Juan Martin del Potro practicing at the Buenos Aires clay court. Delpo served phenomenally before putting away the point with a strong right-handed forehand that was vintage Del Potro.

Naturally, his fans flocked to the post with their comments. Seeing as Del Potro has admitted to having constant pain in his knees, a fan wrote that they would give Delpo their knees “to continue watching (him) play”.

Another fan talked about the explosive right forehand that Juan Martin del Potro employs in the video clip. “How are you going to retire,” asked the fan, “with how good that right (forehand) sounds?”

In fact, another fan simply wrote, “Let me know when you know where that combo is bought,” talking about Del Potro’s serve and forehand combination. Additionally, echoing the sentiments of the entire tennis community, another Twitter user expressed that they still “refuse to think that this man is going to retire”.

“What are we going to do without that right (forehand)?” asked another fan as Delpo hit the ball with a cracking right.

Again, talking about Juan Martin’s knees, a Twitter fan asked if there was any knee specialist who could help the Argentine star. “Please make yourself available to help Delpo,” they wrote.

Another Twitter user shared how fans would be happy to see Del Potro for at least one more night before he leaves the sport for good.

“What a monster, by God,” a fan reacted. They described how a life of seeing Del Potro had been “incredible”.

That right is flawless, it can’t be (retired) now,” a fan sadly expressed.

Clearly, fans are quite impassioned about Juan Martin del Potro announcing his retirement. “DO NOT RETIRE JUAN MARTIN!!!” another fan wrote. Moreover, he also expressed his belief in how they hope “the public will make him (Del Potro) rethink retirement”.

Talking yet again about the forehand and serve combo, another fan couldn’t contain their excitement. I see it and I can’t help but get excited, I love you, Juan Martin, never leave,” they wrote.

Furthermore, another fan even expressed how they believed Juan Martin could easily win the 2022 US Open. In fact, they would “be buying tickets to the US Open 2022 final,” had it not been for “hearing (Delpo) say he can’t take that horrible pain anymore”.

Del Potro is considering retirement soon

Ahead of his comeback in the Round of 32 at the Argentina Open, Del Potro talked to the press. Shockingly, he announced that his return to the courts will be more of a farewell than a comeback.

Owing to his constant pain after his injury, Del Potro wants to live a normal life, “without pain”. The Argentine got visibly emotional while making this announcement.

Furthermore, he also stated that he couldn’t have wished for a better place to play his last matches than in front of his home crowd in Argentina. Following the Buenos Aires ATP event, Del Potro will then play in Rio de Janeiro, which could very well be his final event in a long and remarkable career.
