Talking about the rising stars, Alex Michelsen has stunned everyone with his rapid rise in the tennis world. Born in the United States, this 19-year-old prodigy has been on a steady rise which has defied expectations. Not only this, he has also come to the notice of many with this remarkable feat. Hailing from a family of former tennis professionals, he had his sights set on the big stage.

Currently playing in the ATP Next Gen Finals, the young ATP star was ranked 1081 in the ATP rankings last year. However, this year saw a remarkable turnaround from him as he managed to climb to the 94th spot in the ranking. That is something very huge compared to a 19-year-old’s standards. This is mainly because he played a lot of Challenger Series where he saw victories that helped him climb a massive feat.

“Not really. Not yet,” Michelsen said when he entered the top 200 in the ATP rankings. “I’m ranked 190 now. Seeing that next to my name on the ATP site is a little crazy. I never really thought, if you would have told me a year ago, I’d be Top 200 now. I’d be like, ‘Whoa, no way.’ So yeah, I don’t think I processed it. So hopefully, I can just stay in shock this week and just keep playing good tennis.”

Thus, the sudden rise of Alex Michelsen has not only stunned fans and experts but the man himself. After being ranked so low in the tennis world, his dedication and commitment to fame helped him climb some massive steps and reach a goal that he would never have thought of!

Alex Michelsen’s Decision to Turn Pro

It was back in August 2023 when Alex Michelsen, who was committed to attending the University of Georgia, announced his decision to turn professional. It was a crucial step in his career. However, in an interview, he also revealed that he had no intentions of making it pro in the tennis world.

“Before COVID, I was in regular high school, I played high school tennis,” Michelsen said in ‘Behind the Racquet’ podcast. “I was good… I was still a solid tennis player but I never thought I’d be playing the ITF juniors to the [junior] slams to futures [tournaments].”

But as he started his career, success followed him. Playing in the prestigious Easter Bowl tournament in 2022, he managed to capture both the singles and doubles titles. Then, playing at Wimbledon, he managed to bag glory as he won the doubles title along with his partner Sebastian Gorzny.

The young American did not know how to stop and one of the biggest turnarounds came when he defeated Kei Nishikori in the ATP Challenger title in Chicago. Not only this, he has also managed to stun the likes of John Isner and Mackenzie McDonald, while finishing runners-up in the Hall of Fame Championship.

Thus, the journey of the young star has been nothing short of sensational. From being someone who did not even think of making it pro to defying all the odds and making a name for himself, he has come a long way.

How did the teenage prodigy make a name for himself?

One take at a time

In a world where player rivalries dominate social media conversations, I am someone who prefers to enjoy the skills showcased on the court rather than be involved in feuds over the greatness of players. Right from my early childhood, I have been engrossed by the legendary rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal. It turned me into a ?Fedal? fan and eventually, when I graduated from college, this fandom created an interest in covering their exploits on the court.
