Fábián Marozsán has recently made headlines at the ongoing Miami Open, as he has now secured a place in the quarterfinal round. While dropping a single set in the tournament, the Hungarian tennis player defeated some of the top-ranked players, including Holger Rune and Alex de Minaur. There must have been a strong inspiration behind this young ATP gun’s performance. Do you know who inspired Marozsán?

With his remarkable on-court accolades and exploits, the 22-time singles Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal has served as an inspiration for many next-generation players on the ATP Tour. The young Hungarian player Fábián Marozsán is no exception, as he grew up idolizing the ‘King of the Clay.’ In fact, Marozsán loves to play on the clay, and he also regards it as his favorite surface. While Nadal has served as an idol for him, the current number-57 player’s father, Zoltan, taught him everything about the racket game.

Reminiscing about his decision to pick up a racket at the age of 5, Marozsán previously opened up about how he wanted to try tennis after watching his father play with a friend. He said, “I’d like to try that sport”. Even though his dad has not played tennis competitively, the Hungarian still credits Zoltan for teaching him everything about the racket game.

Aside from the Spaniard, Nadal, Marozsán has looked up to his compatriot, Márton Fucsovics, who has led the way for Hungarian men’s tennis.

Fábián Marozsán on how his compatriot served as an inspiration for Hungarian tennis players

On top of having a former number 31 ranking, Márton Fucsovics previously became the first Hungarian player to win an ATP Tour singles title since Balázs Taróczy in 1982. With his brilliant achievements, the 32-year-old player has paved the path for the next generation in his country, including Fábián Marozsan.

“Marton is a really good player, he’s the best Hungarian, maybe of all time,” Marozsán said in the previous season as he hailed his compatriot as the best Hungarian player on the tour. He also said, “I can learn from him; he’s confident, he knows what he’s doing. Hungary is not a big tennis country, so sometimes we practise at the federation when he’s home. Everyone wants to beat him and be better than him. We look up to him.”
