Roman Safiullin is a Russian player who is a dark horse in many tournaments. While he has appeared in only one final of an ATP Tour-level event, Safiullin’s performance has managed to oust many great players. As he battles each player on the court, Safiullin is supported by the crowd due to his personality. Along with them, his wife Liudmyla Smolanova has been a great pillar for his success on the court.

There is much mystery surrounding the relationship between Safiullin and Smolanova who is a professional dancer. The pair wants to keep their personal life out of the public eye. As a result, little else is known about her familial background. They didn’t make many posts about each other before they got engaged in 2020 when Safiullin shared two photos of him and his then-fiancée kissing on his Instagram page. They also showcased their engagement rings.

The two eventually tied the knot in November 2022. Since their wedding, the Russian player often shares pictures of himself and his wife. Smolanova enjoys going on vacations with her husband, and Safiullin frequently posts images from their adventures on his social media pages. Currently, the couple does not have any children.

Being in a career where she has to exert herself physically every day, Smolanova perhaps best understands the support Safiullin needs during his matches. She stands by him through thick and thin, and the Russian player recognizes her support.

Understandably in tears after the match, Safiullin did not forget to thank his wife in his runner-up speech. Through tears, he said, “I want to thank my wife. We made it a really long way. From Futures to the final of ATP & top 50. Thank you very much for your support & for your love. I love you so much.”
