The Monte Carlo winner faced a surprise defeat against Thiago Monteiro in his latest match at the Madrid Open, with a score of 6-4. In over 90 minutes, the left-handed Monteiro continued his winning streak for the week. However, after the victory, the 29-year-old admitted, “For sure, this is one of the biggest wins of my career.” He further continued and expressed his joy by saying, “I knew it was a really tough match, but I tried to believe in myself the whole time. I was feeling good on the court. I like to play at altitude.”

Monteiro is all set to enter the third round of his first-ever Master 1000 event. There, he will compete against Jiri Lehecka. And as he achieves his goal on-court and off-court, his girlfriend’s support for him remains his ultimate strength.
