The Australian player had clinched an astounding victory by defeating none other than the tennis legend Pete Sampras. He was on cloud nine and was doing interviews with the media. It was initially planned that he will have a photo shoot at the World Trade Centre on 9/11. However, it got changed, and they did it at the Central Station instead. He said, “It was incredible how it played out.”

He had boarded a flight to Australia and had noticed that a few air hostesses were crying. But he did not dwell on it a lot. But things changed when he landed in Sydney. Hewitt said, “When we landed in Sydney the pilot came out. He tried to explain as best he could what had happened while we were mid-air on that flight.”

The Australian player stated, “There were bigger things going on in the world.” He could not fathom that the world had changed completely during the time they were in the air. Former world no. 1 said, “It’s a surreal moment.”

All in all fathoming such information was difficult for the Australian player. He said, “But it was a weird situation for me to be in – to think one minute you couldn’t be happier and then to just know that the whole world had changed.”
