The French Open 2021 is heating up as the tournament is now moving towards Round 4 matches. One of the R4 matches will be between the current world No.1 Novak Djokovic and 19-year-old Lorenzo Musetti.

Musetti is considered a star in the making, one who has shown his potential on the grandest stage of them all. The Italian reached Round 4 after securing a win against his fellow Italian, Marco Cecchinato, and had to work hard to emerge victorious as the match was an exhausting one. Now, the teenager will face his biggest challenge yet in the form of Novak Djokovic in Round 4.

Musetti opens about facing Novak Djokovic

Musetti is having a dream run in the French Open, and the Italian doesn’t want it to end. During the press conference, Musetti talked about facing Djokovic in Round 4.

“Last year, Jannik took a lot of confidence against Rafa, and that’s what I’m going to try to do against Novak. I practiced with him so we know a little bit. There will be more tension, bu what I’m working for since my childhood is now reality.”

The match against Djokovic will be one of the biggest matches of Musetti’s career. The Italian is ranked 76 in the ATP ranking, which is his career-best.

The Italian made his ATP debut back in 2020 in the Dubai open, and since then, the kid has been impressive. Musetti has already reached 3 ATP semifinals.

The Future of Italian tennis

Lorenzo Musetti then expressed his opinion about how Jannik Sinner and himself are the future of Italian tennis and tennis in general.

“Jannik (Sinner) and I are the future of Italian tennis and the tennis in general. He is a bit forward. I’m just leaving what he was leaving last year. We play now every week together. That was my goal. I see and I’m happy he’s going well but I have to see myself.”

Jannik Sinner was a huge surprise in the French Open 2020, as the Italian reached the quarterfinals. Now both Jannik and Musetti will face two legends of the game.

Jannik will face Rafael Nadal, and Musetti will face Djokovic in the R4 of the French Open. It is great to see two Italian teenagers shinning in the biggest stages of the tennis world.
