Spanish tennis sensation Carlos Alcaraz is one of the best modern-day tennis players. The 19-year-old has won against the likes of Djokovic and Nadal. Although he is still to win a Grand Slam title, the future looks bright for the youngster.

After a brilliant run in the Hamburg European Open, Alcaraz finally broke into the top five. With this, he has become the youngest player since Rafael Nadal to break into the top five of the ATP rankings.

However, the Spaniard has even bigger goals for his future.

Carlos Alcaraz eyes number 1 spot

Alcaraz had a brilliant run in the European Open. Although he lost against Lorenzo Musetti in the finals, he has benefitted from the ranking points. The 19-year-old is now holding the rank of world number 5.

Speaking about the achievement, world number 5 revealed a much bigger goal that he has for his future.

“It means a lot. The hard work that I put in every day for reaching my dreams, [No.] 1, and little by little I’m reaching my dream, Top five for me is pretty amazing and I will keep going to be [No.] 1.” He said.

Interestingly, Alcaraz is a year older than Nadal when he broke into the top 5. While Novak Djokovic did it at 19.

Both Djokovic and Nadal went on to become number 1. Today they are among all-time greats. With his goals set for the future, Alcaraz will look forward to replicating their feat.

Achievements of Alcaraz

Hailing from the same nation, many term him the successor of legendary Rafael Nadal. In his young career, Alcaraz has already won five ATP titles.

His best performance in a Grand Slam appearance came at the US Open, where he made it to the quarterfinal. The 19-year-old was in brilliant form in this year’s clay season. He won the Barcelona Open and followed it up with the title at Madrid Open.

In Madrid, he defeated Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in consecutive matches. Further, he reached the quarterfinals of the French Open but lost to Alexander Zverev in a tough match. Later, he also gave his best performance in the Wimbledon Championships 2022. With his recent performance in the European Open, he is the most promising prospect in men’s tennis now.
