It was the inaugural edition of the Laver Cup in 2017. Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal were both present to represent Team Europe at the tournament. Further, on the second day of the event, the Swiss maestro paired up with his on-court rival, Nadal, to play doubles.
What followed was a dream-come-true moment for tennis fans all across the globe. While we all were familiar with watching them on the opposite sides of the court, the two superstars of tennis teamed up to play doubles at the Laver Cup.

In a few days, Federer will bid adieu to the sport after playing in the Laver Cup. Recently, the Swiss maestro talked about the possibility of playing doubles in the tournament.
Roger Federer to potentially team up with Rafael Nadal to play doubles at the Laver Cup
The 20-time Grand Slam champion arrived in London earlier this week and has begun his preparations for the tournament. During an interview, he opened up about the possibility of playing singles and doubles at this year’s Laver Cup before calling an end to his career.

Talking on this subject, Federer said, “I’m happy and surprised at how good my shots are. But I won’t be able to play singles, that was pretty clear beforehand.”

Further, he went on to add, “That’s why it was no longer an option to compete at the Swiss Indoors at the end of October. I’ll probably play doubles here on Friday night.”

Federer and Nadal’s performance in doubles together at the Laver Cup
The two legends of the sport haven’t disappointed their fans when stepping onto the court to play doubles together at the Laver Cup. In the maiden edition of the Laver Cup in 2017, Nadal and Federer teamed up to face Team World’s Sam Querrey and Jack Sock.

They began the match dominantly, taking the opening set 6-4. However, Querrey and Sock came back strongly to level the match by winning the second set 6-1. Further, in the super tiebreaker, Nadal and Federer held their nerves to win it 10-5. It was the only time the two have played doubles together at the Laver Cup.
