Venus and Serena themselves are the executive producers of the movie. Remarkably, the movie had gained many nominations for the ‘Golden Globe’ award. And, now the movie has secured its first big win. American actor, Will Smith was awarded the Best Film Actor (Drama).

Smith related to Serena Williams’ father

When Will Smith read the script of the movie, he found similarities between his father and Serena’s father. Smith said“Richard Williams is a lot like my father. So when I first read [the script], I understood what it’s like to want your kids to succeed. I had done it a little bit with my kids.”

He further added, “I understood what it was to try to mold a young mind, how it’s different with sons than it is with daughters.” The biggest award the movie could win, however, is the inspiration it will provide to parents to push their daughters towards sports, rather than restricting them.

Notably, despite his successful career, Will is still aiming for his first Oscar. Do you think after ‘Golden Globe’, the Oscar would be the next award for Will?
