The All England Lawn Tennis Club in Southwest London already has a capacity of 42,000 spectators. Now, the Wimbledon authorities seem to have plans to expand their grounds. They have reportedly purchased land across Church Road, which will be used to build 38 grass courts and several public parks across the 73-acre area on Wimbledon Hill Road.
However, these controversial £200m expansion plans have resulted in protests from local residents who are claiming that the beautiful and historical landscape will be ruined following the construction. The 98-year-old actress, who is known for her roles in Coronation Street from 1996, lives next door to the prestigious Club in London. Thelma Ruby lives in her penthouse that gives her a beautiful view of the Wimbledon Park Golf Club, which is now closed so that the planned construction may begin.
