As Rafael Nadal fans around the world await the grand comeback of the Spaniard, concerning updates about his situation following his recent injury scares kept surfacing on social media. So far, Nadal has missed out on some of the season’s important tournaments in the first few months of 2023. With the clay season starting officially, loyal Nadal fans are awaiting the return of the King of Clay to claim what has been his dominant surface for decades. However, amidst many fan tweets quoting sources that did not seem to promise much in response to an immediate comeback, Nadal himself has decided to address these doubts once and for all.

In recent months, the Spanish ATP legend has also seen a dip in his ranking and, surely owing to the injury in his left leg, he hasn’t been able to keep up with his practice as much as he used to. As the chances of a grand comeback on clay seemed to walk away farther every day, Nadal took it upon himself to address his fans on Twitter and give them an update about his situation.

Rafael Nadal’s comeback isn’t going to happen just yet

Rafa’s fans are primarily concerned about his return to Roland Garros to be specific. Barcelona, Monte Carlo and such clay tournaments would only have been a prequel to the French Open for Nadal fans. However, going by what Rafa himself has to say, the situation looks far from promising.

A few minutes back, a tweet popped up on the screens of Rafa’s followers with a note by the ATP legend himself. Originally penned down in Spanish, Nadal says, “Barcelona is a special tournament for me, because it is my adopted club and because playing at home is always a unique feeling.” He then hits the nail on its head with an update about his situation as he writes, “I am still not ready and, therefore, I continue my preparation process for the return to competition.”

Following the tweet, with a comment under the same he says, “Good luck to my friend David Ferrer and his entire team for this edition of Godó, which will surely be a success at all levels.”

The GTL tennis podcast, just like countless other Nadal fans, replied to his message with a hope of seeing the Spaniard compete in the upcoming Roland Garros.

A fan writes, I trust you will comeback in Paris, the legend, we want the fifteenth title, come on”, emphasizing a grand French Open for Rafa.

Nadal encountered a hip flexor injury and a grade 2 lesion in the Iliacus Psoas of his left leg at the beginning of the season. This injury typically will take 6-8 weeks to heal. The delayed comeback thus is a scare for Nadal fans who suspect the injury might have been graver.
