The Swiss Maestro seems a bit gloomy about the absence of Rafael Nadal. However, he is still vouching for his former rival Novak Djokovic to show a strong performance.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion shared one of the longest and most intense rivalries with Rafael Nadal. However, he always remained his favorite. Therefore, Federer expresses remorse over the injuries that stalled Nadal’s participation during the clay court season.

During an interview at Miami Grand Prix, he shared his thoughts on the possibility of Rafa’s withdrawal from the French Open. He stated, “It will be brutal. It’ll be tough for tennis if Rafa wasn’t not going to be there. I still hope so. I saw he pulled out of Rome so I wish him the best.”

Moving on to talk about his next biggest rival, the Serbian tennis legend, he stated, “Obviously, Novak also hasn’t played that much so I hope he’s gonna be strong as well.”

Apart from these two, the rise of young players like Carlos Alcaraz Garfia has caught the eye of the Swiss Maestro too. He stated, “And obviously, all the young guys coming through as well. I’ll be watching, that’s for sure.”
