Wimbledon authorities come up with a blueprint for a new roof-covered show court

According to an exclusive report from express.co.uk, the authorities of the British Slam have recently unveiled their plans for a roof-covered show court in Southwest London. It will be known as the ‘Parkland Show Court’ and will have a capacity for 8,000 spectators. In addition to relieving the pressure caused by the rain delays in the prestigious event, the stadium will also contribute to the London economy.

The Wimbledon development project, which could commence ahead by the autumn, is anticipated to generate an extra £38.32 million boon. Speaking about the same, the Head of Estate Development at the All England Club, Justin Smith stated that they are still waiting for a green light from the other parties involved in the project.

However, Smith is quite certain that they will get permission ahead by the autumn, while they might also hold talks with the GLA (Greater London Authority). He added, “Beyond qualifying we can do some extra beneficial work for the Championships – that’s one of the reasons why we are putting this 8,000 seater show court into this location.”

The All-England Club has already purchased a 73-acre area in Wimbledon which will be used for their expansion project of the prestigious tennis event. However, it recently became a target of scrutiny from the local residents and a popular British actress living next door to the construction location.

The scale of the project, which includes the establishment of 38 grass courts and several public parks,  has resulted in protests from local residents and the popular British actress, Thelma Ruby. They are quite worried that the construction project will ruin the beautiful and historical landscape of the Wimbledon Park Golf Club. Even the Coronation Street star recently used her platform to express her angst over the project that will soon take place right across her penthouse in London.
