Today, Matteo Berrettini and Gael Monfils had one of the best tennis matches of this year’s Australian Open. The quarter-final match between the Italian and the Frenchman was simply out of this world. Earlier today, Rafael Nadal and Denis Shapovalov also had a tremendous match. Now, both the victors will meet in the semis on Friday.

However, Matteo didn’t quite receive the warm applause from Melbourne that Rafa did.

Matteo Berrettini had some words for the crowd

The match between Gael Monfils (no.17 seed) and Matteo Berrettini (no.7 seed) had some amazing shots, rallies, and much more. Matteo took a two-set lead against the Frenchman and looked the favorite to win the tie in straight sets. However, the no.17 seed fought back against the Italian.

Known for being an entertainer, Monfils showed extreme composer to win back-to-back sets against the no.7 seed. The decider, however, didn’t go according to Monfils’ plans, as he looked tired after playing four exhausting sets of tennis.

In the end, Berrettini won the match by 6-4,6-4,3-6,3-6,6-2 in 3 hours and 49 minutes. However, one interesting thing happened at the post-match interview when a member of the crowd interrupted Matteo’s interview and said, “Yo Matt, F*** You.” In reply, Matteo gave a very classy answer, which is a testament to his character.

“It’s full of people and I like it. Some of them are not really tennis fans, I think, but it is what it is. You cannot control everybody, I think to be respectful is something you have to do anyway, but it’s fine. I win, I’m happy,” Matteo said.

Earlier, Rafael Nadal won his quarter-final match against Denis Shapovalov. That match also had some feisty moments with rallies, shots, and some arguments. After 4 hours and 8 minutes, Nadal beat Shapovalov by 6-3,6-4,4-6,3-6,6-3 to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open.

Meanwhile, Matteo became the first-ever Italian player to reach the semi-final of the Australian Open. He will now move his focus towards the 20-time Grand Slam champion in the next round. It will be one of the top matches to watch for sure.
