Sonego unimpressed by Nadal’s actions

Nadal, after facing an issue with the changed lighting of the court, called his opponent Lorenzo Sonego to the net to share his concern and frustration. However, the Italian professional tennis wasn’t happy to have a conversation in the middle of an ongoing match. He said, “A player should not call his opponent on the net. You cannot do that at Wimbledon.”

“Nadal should have just had a word with the umpire. He distracted me,” he added. The issue began when the Spaniard struck Sonego on the head. As a result of which the former world No.21 demanded for the roof to be closed and the lights to be turned on to increase visibility.

In the fourth round of the tournament Nadal will lock horns with Botic Van de Zandschulp, the current men’s Dutch No.1 player. The 26-year-old will meet the Spanish tennis legend for the second time this year. Earlier, he fought at Roland Garros for a seat in the round of 16 against the eventual champion.

In the French Open, the ‘King of Clay’ outclassed the Dutch in straight sets of 6-3 6-2 6-4. However, in the case of grass, things might be a little different. Nadal, having taken care of his foot injury, seems to outweigh Zandschulp’s chances. The clash is scheduled for Monday, the 4th of July.
