Djokovic will take on the world number 4 Casper Ruud in the final. The Norwegian made his third slam final after a straight-set victory over Alexander Zverev. Now, Djokovic has a solid 4-0 record against Ruud having won all their previous matches in straight sets. To make things worse for Ruud fans, he was also found grimacing during his final practice session yesterday.
A potential injury for Novak Djokovic’s slam final opponent
Casper Ruud is starting the final as a heavy underdog. The odds worsen for the Norwegian if he is not at full fitness. At this point, everything is going Djokovic’s way.
The fans on Reddit were absolutely chaotic once the news broke out. They believed that whatever little chance Ruud had was all gone. Amidst all the chaos, the fan reactions were filled with sarcasm. The Andy Roddick quote, ” First he takes your legs and then he takes your soul” was being referred to a lot.
Aside from the sarcastic comments, one fan made a really valid point while others were panicking.
A few Djokovic fans have started celebrating already while the Ruud fans accepted defeat.
Novak Djokovic’s fortunate road to the final
Djokovic has certainly played some high-quality tennis to get to the finals of the Roland Garros. However, he has had a bit of luck by his side at the same time. The Serb did not face a single top-10-ranked opponent in the first five rounds.
In the much-anticipated semi-final clash against Carlos Alcaraz, Djokovic was once again on the receiving end of fortune. At one set all in a grueling battle, the Spaniard started cramping which affected his movement. He had to concede a game in order to take the medical time-out as the cramps kicked in before the changeover. Even after the treatment, Alcaraz could barely move and Djokovic cruised past the youngster with ease.
