The 7-time grand slam winner, John McEnroe, married the American actress, Tatum O’Neal, in 1986. But after a short period of their marriage, the couple got separated in 1992. Their divorce drew the attention of many people and the media, as both parties accused each other of drug abuse.

After their split, the actress, O’Neal, lost custody of the three children on account of drug abuse. However, she once opened up about her relationship with the former American tennis player and also about their divorce.

The American actress, Tatum O’Neal, further revealed that McEnroe’s hot temperament resembled her father’s aggressive attitude. However, O’Neal also stated that she was attracted to her former husband because of his infamous temper.

She stated, “He was powerful. He could take care of me and let me hide. Because I had no inner core back then. I was so beaten down.” O’Neal also said that her former husband was far better than her father in terms of their temperament issues. She stated that her parents’ acquaintances had physically abused her since childhood.

The American actress went on to say, ‘Everybody says, “Oh, you married your father.” I’ve heard that a million times. But John is a much better man than my father. A decent man. Is he bitter at me? Yes. Is that O.K.? No. But that’s his problem.'”

John McEnroe and Tatum O’Neal used to live in the Central Park West apartment in New York City during the initial years of their relationship in 1984. The popular couple share three children, Kevin, Sean, and Emily.

The former American tennis player, McEnroe, married the popular singer and songwriter, Patty Smyth, in 1997. Following his divorce with the Academy Award-winning actress, Tatum O’Neal, McEnroe met Smyth during a Christmas party in 1993. Later on, McEnroe and Smyth went out on various dates together.

The low-profile couple share two children together, named Anna and Ava. The seven-time Grand Slam champion also revealed that their low-profile relationship as the major reason for their long marriage that has lasted for more than a decade.
