One of the top five tennis players during his heyday on the tour, Becker is now known for his fall from grace. The German hid assets while declaring bankruptcy and it eventually led him to trouble. However, that is not all he did. His ex-wife, Lilly Becker, revealed a manner in which Becker tried to avoid debt collectors.

The weird obsession of Boris Becker led to a bizarre idea

In his retirement, Becker did everything in his power to avoid paying taxes. He was first charged with tax evasion in 2002. He avoided jail time for probation and paid a hefty fine. While many would expect it to be a learning curve, Becker did not change. He declared himself bankrupt in 2017 and then went on hiding his assets from debt collectors when an investigation was launched.

His ex-wife, Lilly Becker, revealed that the German had a weird obsession with horses. When debt collectors came knocking on his Mallorca Mansion, Becker scrambled to hide his steeds. Lilly revealed that the one assessor decided to take a look into the master bedroom, but her ex-husband had horses hiding in the room.

“The guy tries to go into the master bedroom but Boris had hid the horses,” she told the Sun UK. She also talked about his reason for trying to hide the giant animals, “You have to pay taxes on them and he hadn’t.”

While a daunting situation, she still chuckled at the bizarre attempt. “You see the funny side of the story because you walk into the bedroom and there’s a horse. I’m sorry, that’s funny.”
