Andre Agassi, a former tennis superstar, is widely regarded as one of the best players of all time. The eight-time Grand Slam champion was an absolute heartthrob on the tennis court. In addition to his dominant achievements, his long hair was a topic of much discussion among his passionate fans. However, he had a dark and disturbing truth hidden beneath his beautiful locks.

Agassi started to lose hair at 19 years of age. After that, he wore wigs for a while before finally turning bald. Andre Agassi once detailed how surprised he was by his ex-wife Brooke Shields’ response to his baldness.

The four-time Australian Open winner Agassi released his memoir ‘Open’ in the year 2009. The memoir described his tough upbringing under his strict father’s watch and his protracted battles with professional tennis’s physical and mental demands.

Further, Agassi revealed how surprised he was by his ex-wife Brooke Shields’ reaction to his hair loss and stated, “This isn’t easy to admit, Brooke. But, look, I’ve been losing my hair for quite some time, and I wear a hairpiece to cover it up.”

He further mentioned, “I reach out, take her hand, put it on my hairpiece. She smiles. I had a feeling, she says. You did? It’s no big deal. You’re not just saying that? It’s your eyes I find attractive. And your heart. Not your hair.” In 1997, he married Brooke Shields. But after only two years of marriage, they split up in 1999.

The same baldness factor that cost Agassi big time

In 1990, the legendary American player made his first Grand Slam final at the French Open. His opponent was the Ecuadorian Andres Gomez. Gomez pulled off an upset, beating Agassi in four sets despite Agassi being the clear favorite.

But the interesting fact here is that his wig had come off in the shower the night before the big final. Therefore, he sought his brother’s help in fixing his wig and sincerely hoped that it would not come off again. However, that eventually became a massive distraction for Agassi, preventing him from giving his all in the final showdown.
