Frenchman Benoit Paire has been in the news for all the wrong reasons in 2021. Now, he has added more to his already questionable conduct in his Wimbledon Championships 2021 opening match. The 32-year-old received a violation for lack of effort during his loss to Diego Schwartzman 6-3 6-4 6-0.

Despite the straightforward score, things got messier as Paire neared a bagel situation in the third set. After netting a couple of lazy shots in the net, Paire rushed to his chair, asking for physical assistance. “Call the physio. I have pain. OK, call the physio, I have pain,” said Paire.

Interestingly, analyzing the situation, chair umpire Lahyani denied his request. “You cannot play like this. I?m not going to call the physio for this. You have to show more sportsmanship,” the chair umpire replied.

Furthermore, the Frenchman tried to impress his situation over the renowned tennis umpire.?Paire continued, “How many forehands did I put in the net in the first two sets? How many?” For the same, the tantalizing voice responded, “You have to try to do your best.”

Between this conversation, a frustrated member in the crowd expressed his views on the situation. The voice shouted,?“You?re wasting everybody?s time.” Certainly, this has been the accusation many tennis fans have also put on Paire in recent times. According to him, it is the bubble life and COVID conditions that make tennis intolerable for him.

Shocking 2021 season of Benoit Paire

Since the resumption of tennis last year in August, Paire has not been himself. On top of that, he has not held himself back when it comes it expressing his thoughts. In fact, the Frenchman even publicly stated that he is not interested in playing tennis in such stringent conditions.

Following that, the current World No.46 took part in some unsportsmanlike behavior over the subsequent tournaments and received heavy criticism. More importantly, he lost his place in Tokyo Olympics and outfit sponsorship too.

From here on, Paire would want to stop for a moment and think about the long-term repercussions of his actions. Having said that, there is no question about his abilities to deliver world-class tennis performances.
