The one thing that has been a common trend across big tournaments this season has been unfortunate climatic conditions. Rain gods have opened up to disrupt the play, causing a scheduling mess. A similar situation occurred at the ongoing Paris Olympic Games. American tennis superstar, Taylor Fritz, is spearheading his country’s challenge at the mega-event. However, he suffered a major setback after play was suspended a few minutes ago on the outside courts owing to incessant rains.

Fritz is participating in all three formats, singles, men’s doubles, and mixed doubles. While he played and lost his singles encounter earlier today, the American star also has men’s doubles and mixed doubles matches scheduled later in the day. As a result, he will have to play three back-to-back matches on the same day, something which isn’t a common trend in tournaments.

However, with the rain gods opening up, the schedule gets further messed up. If Fritz wins both his doubles encounters, he will have to play two matches tomorrow as well.

After Coco Gauff’s heartbreaking singles exit, all eyes were on Fritz to provide redemption for the American fans. However, he went down against a spirited Lorenzo Musetti of Italy in straight sets 6-4, 7-5 in the third round of the singles. Fritz’s hopes now lie on his doubles campaign, as he will partner Tommy Paul and Coco Gauff in his men’s doubles and mixed doubles encounters, respectively later today.

While many American stars like Frances Tiafoe and Ben Shelton decided to give the Paris Olympic Games a miss, Fritz was determined to win a medal for his country. The 26-year-old revealed why he wanted to go the extra mile and represent his country in Paris.

Taylor Fritz puts national duty above personal career ambitions

Ahead of his Olympics campaign, Fritz was confident of a good show in Paris and making his countrymen proud. Thus, he opted to play in all the formats and he still has a shot at winning two medals following his defeat in singles.

During an interview before the Olympics, Fritz revealed, “I‘m kind of just looking at the big picture in obviously presenting my country… I don’t know where I’m going to be in four years. “I’m going to be 30. I hope I’m going to play in (the Los Angeles Olympics), and even if I do, I wouldn’t want that to be my first Olympics. I kind of want to get this experience and really give myself the absolute best chance to perform in LA. I think that’s going to be a great opportunity for me, and being here is a great experience for that.”

However, Fritz would have to be cautious of the scheduling of his matches, as playing back-to-back matches might affect him physically. Recently, he had to miss the Wimbledon Championships owing to an injury. Can Fritz come back strongly after his singles defeat and win a medal for the United States in the other categories at the Paris Olympics? Let us know your views in the comments below.
