Novak Djokovic sent a touching post to Khabib after his emotional win

As Khabib applied the triangle choke and made Justin Gaethje tap out, he knew that he had made history. The Russian registered his 29th victory, but it was the first one without his father by his side.

Abdulmanap Nurmagomedov had been Khabib’s lifelong coach but passed earlier in the year due to health complications. Khabib returned to the octagon after almost a year and soared to victory, but the emotions kicked in hard afterward.

The lightweight champion crawled to the ground and wept uncontrollably, venting out all the emotions that weighed him down leading to this fight. A designer created a beautiful illustration of Abdulmanap’s spirit standing beside his champion son. Novak Djokovic felt intrigued by the work of art and shared it on his Instagram account.

Khabib’s win and him breaking down will certainly go down as one of the iconic moments in sporting history. Over the years, he has dominated inside the octagon with all his might. But he will no longer do so, as he does not want to step into it without his father to support him. And just like that, one of the greatest fighters has retired from UFC.
