What a year Carlos Alcaraz is having! After a thumping start to this year, his 2022 season has just got better. Yesterday, he defeated Casper Ruud of Norway in the final of the 2022 US Open. Fans hailed Alcaraz’s brilliant performance during the entire tournament. Additionally, many tennis pundits also lauded him for his grit and determination on the court. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ex-wife, Maria Shriver, also had a special message for Alcaraz after winning the US Open crown.

It was a stupendous effort by the young Spaniard to clinch his maiden Grand Slam title. Although he had to work hard for his victories, the Spaniard found the cutting edge to come out on top in each of the matches at this year’s US Open.

Maria Shriver took to Twitter to praise Alcaraz for his heroics against Casper Ruud in the final of the US Open. She said, “Congratulations, @carlosalcaraz! The youngest man in the world to become #1 at just 19 years old.”

Meanwhile, it was a bitter-sweet moment for Casper Ruud. The Norwegian star lost his second Grand Slam final this year. Earlier this season, he reached the summit round of the French Open. However, he lost out to the ‘King of Clay’, Rafael Nadal.

Nonetheless, Ruud attained his career-best singles ranking. He climbed five spots to reach the second position on the ATP rankings chart.

Alcaraz talks about his victory

The 19-year-old was ecstatic after winning the US Open title. He said, “It’s crazy for me. I’ve never thought that I was going to achieve something like that at 19 years old.”

Further, he went on to add, “So everything has come so fast. For me it’s unbelievable. It’s something I dream since I was a kid, since I start playing tennis.”
