Roger Federer (3)

Dominic Thiem (5)

Matteo Berrettini (8)

Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic have been placed the same group along with Dominic Thiem and Matteo Berrettini. Considering Federer’s recent losses to Novak and Thiem being win-less against the Serb on hard-courts, Djokovic seems a clear-cut semifinalist at ATP World Tour Finals 2019.

Moreover, a few weeks ago, he did not drop a set in Tokyo and Paris and declared himself as the champion in both the cities.

Federer can seal the next semifinal spot from Borg’s group. He recently pulled off a title in his home town and has got ample of rest before commencing his voyage at ATP World Tour Finals 2019.

However, Thiem could trounce upon the Swiss twice this year and he won the biggest title of his career at Indian Wells Masters in March by knocking down Federer in the title match.

Matteo Berrettini is a debutant in the tournament, but this year his run to semi-finals of US Open 2019 brought him into the limelight. He has never played Novak Djokovic and his head to head record against Federer and Thiem are negative.

Predicted Semifinalists From Group Bjorn Borg:

Djokovic (2)

Federer (3)

Group Andre Agassi

Rafael Nadal (1)

Daniil Medvedev (4)

Stefanos Tsitsipas (6)

Alexander Zverev (7)

With Rafa’s prevailing abdominal injury he does not seem to be the favorite face to win the tournament. Also, with the talented NextGen players in his category, Nadal is likely to be halted by the new era contenders.

Despite, Nadal holding an 11-1 win-loss record against everyone in his group, it seems improbable for the Spaniard to qualify for the semifinals due to his fitness status. Also, taking his recent withdrawal from the Rolex Paris Masters 2019 into the account, Rafa is not expected to make a deep in London.

The Russian sensation who held a record of reaching six straight finals on the ATP Tour, Daniil Medvedev will credibly qualify for the semifinals in London. He has defeated Zverev and Tsitsipas multiple times and only Nadal could halt him in New York and Cincinnati this year.

The defending champion, Alexander Zverev beat Federer and Djokovic back-to-back last year at ATP Finals. This year he is likely to earn his semi-finals spot. He recently reached the Beijing semifinals and Shanghai finals, but in Europe, he was knocked out from the opening round of Basel and second round of Paris.

Another debutant in London, Stefanos Tsitsipas reached the semi-finals in three of his last four tournaments, but his winning record against the machine Medvedev is poor and pumped Zverev might cause hindrance. The road to the semifinals is an uphill battle for Tsitsipas.

The semi-finals lineup is expected to be, Federer vs  Medvedev and Djokovic vs Zverev. With the ‘Big Three’ of tennis reigning on the ATP courts for more than a decade now, Federer and Djokovic will probably take the finalists spot at Nitto ATP Finals 2019 and Djokovic having a six-match winning streak against Federer, the Serbian will likely lift the ATP Finals title of the sixth time in his career.

By doing so, he will be tying his illustrious record with the Swiss legend, Roger Federer.
