Stefanos Tsitsipas makes a winning start at the ATP World Tour Finals 2019 on his debut, defeating Daniil Medvedev 7-6(5), 6-4 in the first match of the Andre Agassi group on Monday in 1 hour and 42 minutes. This is Tsitsipas’ first victory against Medvedev in six attempts.

Stefanos Tsitsipas went off to a slow start as he quickly went 0-30 down in his opening service game but he kept his nerve to lead the race in the opening set.

He then forced three errors from Daniil Medvedev in the next game to get an early breakpoint but the Greek gun squandered the opportunity with a forehand shot into the net and the Russian survived a tricky service game.

The games went with serve till the 12th game as the set was forced to go through the tiebreaker. The tiebreaker was quite a replication of the set till 5-5.

However, the No.6 seed changed gears at the perfect time as he got a minibreak before serving out the tiebreaker 7-5, winning the opening set in 54 minutes. Tsitsipas lost only one point off his 23 first serves in the first set.

Set two

The two players continued to hold their service games without any trouble till the fifth game.

At 3-2 when Stefanos Tsitsipas was serving to level the set, the Russian star troubled his serve but the Greek survived. In the next game, Tsitsipas stepped up his game to earn a breakpoint with a brilliant forehand winner but a perfect service from Daniil Medvedev saved the breakpoint.

Tsitsipas got another opportunity to get control over the match but the 2019 US Open runner-up hit a big winner to save the third break point of the match and held a crucial service game.

Tsitsipas then went onto break Medvedev for the first time in the match before seeing out the match, winning the set 6-4.
