Her words were not just filled with wisdom but quite practical as well. The scheduling problem in tennis tournaments has grown quite a lot over the years. While it is great for business, players are getting a bad hand in this deal.

Players have been criticizing the associations at every chance they can get. This step is out of desperation and nothing else. Since the associations aren’t taking any effective action to solve the issue or even address it, criticism is the only option left. Billie Jean King comes out with her side of the story.

Billie Jean King in her recent statement called for a collective reevaluation. She said: “How do we fit in this sport and how do we make it work? Because we have a lot of factions in the sport, we’re not just one organization.” King laid bare the actual issues in just a few words. The multiplicity of tennis factions—ATP, WTA, PTPA, and others cast a shadow over the game’s coherence. King’s vision extends beyond the logistical puzzle, as she says: “So how do we want to shape the world? You know, how do we want to help shape the world to be more positive? That we all get along. That we are kind and we respect each other.”

Associations’ scheduling tango

The ATP and WTA once used to be tennis unifiers. However, they have now spun a confusing web of schedules. Criticism pours in from players, however, the associations seem to be taking an extended time to work on this matter. 

In tennis, collaboration acts as a key to various issues. It will be quite disheartening if these entities do not take any necessary action. Change isn’t just a demand. It’s a plea for associations to step up and address problems.
