In a Rare Meeting for the Ages, Yesteryear Argentinian Tennis Beauty Lands a Pose With Tennis’ Royal Couple Roger Federer and Mirka at Miami GP

Despite being a Formula One event, the 2023 Miami Grand Prix drew several prominent names from the tennis world. 41-year-old Swiss maestro Roger Federer turned up with his wife Mirka days after their showstopping appearance at the 2023 Met Gala appearance.

During their Miami Grand Prix appearance, the Federers happened to run into former Argentine-Italian tennis player Gabriela Sabatini. Sabatini was absolutely thrilled after meeting the Federers. She took to Instagram to share a photo with Roger and Mirka.

From the mid-1980s to the mid-1990s, Gabriela Sabatini was one of tennis’ most dominant forces. During this period, Sabatini amassed a whopping 41 titles, which included a 1990 US Open title win. Her stellar on-court performances during this period helped her climb up to World No. 3 in both the WTA Tour singles and doubles rankings.

When Federer was growing up, Sabatini was one of his tennis inspirations. As a result, when he met Sabatini at the 2023 Miami Grand Prix, he couldn’t resist the temptation of a photo with one of his idols.

In an Instagram story post, Sabatini shared the delightful picture, and tagged Roger Federer and Mirka. There was a heart symbol below the picture as well. It reflected the love and respect Sabatini has for the Federers.

Gabriel Sabatini and Roger Federer’s Swiss ties keep them in touch

Federer was born and bred in Switzerland, and that’s where his home is. Sabatini also began calling Switzerland her home after she decided to permanently relocate to the incredibly scenic European nation. Both Federer and Sabatini own homes in Zurich, and they have run into each other in the city in the past.

Just like Federer looked up to Sabatini, Sabatini loved watching Federer play as well. Prior to Federer’s retirement from pro tennis in 2022, Sabatini had once expressed her admiration for the Swiss icon’s superlative tennis skills.
