Today, legendary American tennis player Venus Williams will make her Grand Slam singles return at the US Open. The 7-time Grand Slam champion will start her campaign against the Belgian Alison Van Uytvanck.

It is worth noting that she received a wild card at this year’s US Open. Although all the spotlight is currently on her younger sister Serena, she is also on the verge of creating history.

Venus Williams will surpass Roger Federer and Serena Williams with a unique record

As Venus is getting ready to play her opening round match at the US Open, this will be her 91st Grand Slam main draw appearance. Notably, this will be the most appearances made by any player in the main draw of a Grand Slam tournament. Moreover, she has already surpassed the likes of Roger Federer and her sister Serena Williams.

Yesterday, Serena made her 81st Grand Slam appearance, and last year, Federer made his 81st Grand Slam appearance at the Wimbledon Championships. Apart from Federer and Serena, Feliciano Lopez, the Spanish tennis player, also played in 81 Grand Slam tournaments.

Venus is currently 42 years old and could also be playing her final Grand Slam tournament. Although she has not announced any such news, her form might be a concern for her, which could force her into retirement as well.

Venus and Serena will play in doubles at the US Open 2022

Earlier, the US Open handed a wild card to the Williams sisters in the doubles category, to the delight of the fans. However, they had a tough draw, as they will face the Czech pair Lucie Hradecka and Linda Noskova in their opening match.

If they manage to reach the third round, they could face the top seed, Elise Mertens and Veronika Kudermetova.

It is worth noting that Venus and Serena have won 2 US Open doubles titles in their career and 14 Grand Slam doubles titles in total. So, this could also be a fairy tale ending for both sisters. At least, that’s what the fans are hoping.
